Stacking up to the competition

One of the first things we do is see how we stack up to the competition? WHY?
We want to see that we are somehow better than everyone else. We tend to focus so much on this that at times we can lose sight of who we are and what makes our business unique. We should always strive for blue ocean waters, but at times that isn’t always easy. When I started doing LinkedIn Marketing it was uncharted waters. Now, everyone and their dogs are selling done-for-you services or courses.
Does that make my knowledge any less valuable? NO!
So instead of trying to be like everyone else. Just be you. Be original. Funny thing about being original is that there really is no longer such thing as being original everything is a knockoff or built upon another idea or concept.
For example, Fifty Shades of Grey is an exact rip off of Twilight yet both made millions of dollars. How is that even possible? Well, the target audiences were the same. The young girls that read and watched Twilight grew up to be the women that read and watched Fifty Shades. Had they been marketed at the same time they would not have been as successful. Fifty Shades came out as the Twilight faze was dying down sparking new interest in both.
So when you set out to see how you compare to your competitors it is just as important to see how you are the same as it is to how you are different.
Be sure to see what it is that they are doing right as well as what they are doing wrong. Build upon their strengths and weaknesses while paving your own way.
